The title really does say it all with this book - it is the story of Jo Malone, the woman behind Jo Malone fragrances and stores and more recently the brand Jo Loves.
Hailing from a working class family in Kent, from an early age she possessed an entrepreneurial spirit and a sense of determination that would see her through a somewhat difficult childhood. As a young woman she discovers her true passion: perfume, and along with her husband builds her eponymous company. Although she is fortunate in having a few helpful connections along the way it is basically sheer hard work and determination that leads to their success.
After fighting an aggressive breast cancer Jo sells her company intending to lead a more relaxed lifestyle but she is soon bored and has recently relaunched herself into the world of perfume with a new niche range, Jo Loves.
I hadn't heard anything about this book before I picked it up and was expecting it to be the story of Jo's business life so I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was Jo's life story. The book does go into how she makes fragrances and created her company image a little but there isn't too much written about business strategy, it is her personal story and it was a great read.
Although ghost written, it is recounted in a very chatty way which feels very authentic.
Jo Malone comes across as being a lovely person, very down to earth, unflappable and grateful for everything in her life be it good or bad.She is a very positive person and I loved her inspiring story.
Recommended.
