I Actually Wore This is a fun coffee table book published by Rizzoli. In it eighty people are photographed wearing their most regrettable wardrobe purchase and next to their photo is an anecdote about that particular piece of clothing told by the wearer.
The book is beautifully produced: the pictures are page sized and well shot, and the accompanying stories are all humorously recounted. There's a similar vein of humor in all the stories so it's quite obvious that they have all been 'polished up' by writer Tom Coleman but the book doesn't lose any of it's charm for that. It's a simple idea but a clever one and the anecdotes offer a tantalising glimpse into the lives of the people featured. The people interviewed are all ages, but they mostly come from L.A. or New York with the exception of a few New Englanders. There's a smattering of celebrities featured but most of the subjects work in creative fields or in something related to fashion.
It's a very funny book, especially suitable as a gift for anyone who has an interest in fashion and an offbeat sense of humor.
It's a lovely coffee table type of book to pick up and flick through at random but I found myself so intrigued by it that I read it straight through from cover to cover.
Recommended.
