"How well do you know your family?" is the question posed on the cover of Jane Shemilt's debut novel The Daughter.
As this cleverly written psychological thriller progresses we discover that in the case of Jenny Malcolm, a GP living in Bristol with her Neurosurgeon husband, Ted and their three teenage children the answer would appear to be not at all...
The Malcolms live a seemingly perfect life, but when their 14 year old daughter, Naomi, goes missing this perfect life unravels bit by bit. As a police investigation into Naomi's disappearance progresses Jenny Malcolm finds herself facing disturbing truths that will destroy both her family and career.
It's a gripping read that I really enjoyed. It's an easy read but has plenty of plot twists and sub plots that will keep you enthralled. The ending is clever and unusual and I am looking forward to Jane Shemilt's next offering - I love discovering new authors, don't you?
Recommended.
